A non-profitable pricing structure is a critical issue for agencies transitioning from another industry to paid search. Website creation and SEO strategies take a long time to complete. Billable hours or a fixed price make a lot of sense in these areas.

If you charge by the hour for Google Ads, Facebook, and Bing account maintenance, you may end up leaving a lot of money on the table in the long run. Excessive tinkering to make a living when paid by the hour can hinder performance, particularly in paid search. Alternatively, you might charge utilizing a results-based system that pays out dividends or nothing at all. It's a win-win situation.

3. Developing Complex Report With Insufficient Optimization

It is a great way to spend your time, but it shouldn't come at the expense of looking at the Search Terms Report at least once a week.

The Keywords tab in the new Google Ads UI has a function called Search Terms Report. It assists you in determining which search queries activate your keywords which is critical if you're employing a tiered bidding structure. You can also add negative keywords to specific ad groups or campaigns and create negative keyword lists throughout your entire account.

5. Keywords with a Long Tail

Have you ever scratched your head and wondered, "What exactly is a long-tail keyword?"

Short-tail keywords have a limited number of words but a high search volume that dominate many Google Ads and Bing accounts. Everyone in your client's business is bidding on those terms, and most of the time, they don't convert very often. 

It's because short keywords don't usually indicate much commercial purpose. Is it because of the competition, the expense, or the lack of conversion? It is not a winning formula.

6. Backfilling Instead of Expanding

How can you keep your clients happy while chasing down and converting leads?

Even the most devoted practitioners, the technical mavens, can be seduced by the attraction of business development. After all, proposing new business is an exhilarating experience.

Unfortunately, it's all too easy to get caught up in pursuing new business and forget about your present clients. It completely interrupts growth, and you end up cutting ties with people who may be your agency's biggest advocates.

7. Unappealing Ad Concepts

Not everyone who can fill out a spreadsheet or keep track of event-based conversions can also design.

On the other hand, clients do not see this as a compelling reason to avoid the sale-generating value of Facebook and the GDN. You will need to generate great image-based content that people want to click on at some point.

For the time being, you can rely on Fiverr, but it can only take you so far. You can also use the Google Ads UI's image-ad creation platform; while the tool has come a long way since its debut, it still sacrifices panache for simplicity.
