Document

In addition to inspecting the impact windows after extreme weather you should document your findings on every window.

The reason for this is when they were installed the company that installed them will have provided a warranty for them so you may be able to have the window repairs carried out under warranty.

If the warranty has expired, then most companies will offer you to purchase an extended warranty or repair plan, and this may work out a lot cheaper than paying for the window repairs without this.

However, to have windows repaired under these types of plans the company will want the damage documented so take pictures of absolutely everything you find on your inspection regardless of how small you think it may be.

The repair process

Once you have completed the inspection and documented what needs done it is time to contact a company to carry out the window repair.

This will either be the company that installed the windows in the first place or a new company that you have chosen to carry out the repairs.

Regardless the process for repairing impact windows will be pretty similar regardless of who is carrying out the work.

The fitter will begin by removing the adhesive that holds the pane of glass into its frame. Once this is done, they will clean and remove any damaged parts of the glass pane and any broken pieces that may have fallen into the frame.

Once they have cleaned the frame and removed any debris, they will then add the new pane of glass to the frame and seal it. They will then allow the seal to dry and test it to ensure it is windproof and waterproof the whole process doesn’t take as long as you would think and once it is done your home will be protected from the elements once again.

Remember that it is imperative to have the repair done as soon as possible to prevent any further damage to your home.
